In an emotional Instagram post, Lil Wayne opened up about the disappointment he felt after being passed over for the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show in his hometown of New Orleans. On September 7, Kendrick Lamar was announced as the headliner for the event, leaving Wayne heartbroken.

“It hurt a lot,” the “A Milli” rapper confessed. “I thought nothing was better than that stage, that platform, in my city, so it hurt.” Wayne, a New Orleans native, admitted the news “broke” him, saying he wasn’t mentally prepared for the letdown.

Despite the pain, Wayne expressed gratitude to his fans, friends, and peers for their unwavering support. “When I felt like s—, you guys reminded me that I ain’t s— without y’all, and that’s an amazing reality,” he said.

Although he’s disappointed, Wayne made it clear he’s focusing on self-growth: “I feel like I let all of y’all down by not getting that opportunity, but I’m working on me, and I’m working, so thank you.”

Kendrick Lamar will perform at the Super Bowl LIX Apple Music Halftime Show at the Caesars Superdome on February 9, 2025.
