“Uchungu Wa Mwana” by DDC Mlimani Park Orchestra is a timeless Tanzanian muziki wa dansi hit, released at the height of the band’s success in the 1980s. The title, which means “The Pain of a Child,” draws from the Swahili proverb “Uchungu wa mwana aujuaye ni mzazi”—”Only a parent knows the pain of their child.” The song beautifully captures themes of parental love, sacrifice, and the emotional challenges they face. Produced during the band’s affiliation with the Dar es Salaam Development Corporation (DDC), it remains a powerful reflection on family and the bonds between parents and their children.
