Spain Beats England 2-1 to Win 2024 Euros in Germany

Spain has clinched a record fourth European Championship after defeating England 2-1 in a thrilling final held in Berlin’s Olympiastadion.

The first half of the match ended in a goalless draw as both nations struggled to break the deadlock. However, the second half brought a flurry of action, beginning with Spain’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal finding space down the right flank and setting up fellow winger Nico Williams in the 47th minute, who coolly slotted the ball past England’s goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford.

England responded in the 73rd minute when substitute Cole Palmer leveled the score, much to the delight of the packed stadium. The tension remained high as both teams pushed for a decisive goal.

In the 86th minute, Spanish substitute Mikel Oyarzabal delivered the winning strike, sliding in a low cross from Marc Cucurella to break England’s hearts and secure a 2-1 victory for Spain. This win marks Spain’s fourth European crown, adding to their titles from 1964, 2008, and 2012.

“I did my job and what I had to, and I was lucky enough to score the goal for the win,” Oyarzabal said after the game. “When you are among the 26 names to be picked, that is special enough, but then to get to help the team like I did, that is the most important part.”

Spanish players celebrated jubilantly after the final whistle, reveling in their hard-earned victory. The match highlighted the skill and determination of Luis de la Fuente’s side, particularly the contributions of young stars like Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal, who combined to break the deadlock early in the second half.

England, despite their valiant effort and comeback, fell just short in their quest for European glory, marking another near miss for the team in major tournaments.

Spain’s latest triumph cements their status as one of the most successful teams in European Championship history, with their record fourth title underscoring their dominance on the continental stage.
