Erik ten Hag Signs One-Year Contract Extension at Manchester United

Erik ten Hag has extended his contract with Manchester United for an additional year, securing his position until June 2026, as announced by the club. The Dutch manager has been in negotiations with United following an end-of-season review conducted by co-owners Ineos, who decided to retain him as head coach.

The new contract, which maintains his existing terms, signifies increased support for Ten Hag from the leadership team, including new sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox.

Discussions are also ongoing with Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake about joining as Ten Hag’s new assistants at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag, who had one year remaining on his previous contract, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “I am very pleased to have reached an agreement with the club to continue working together. Looking back at the past two years, we can reflect with pride on two trophies and significant progress. However, we must also be clear that there is still a lot of hard work ahead to reach the levels expected of Manchester United, which means challenging for English and European titles.”

Ashworth welcomed the extension ahead of Ten Hag’s return for pre-season training, commenting, “With two trophies in the past two seasons, Erik has reinforced his record as one of the most consistently successful coaches in European football. While the club’s review of last season highlighted areas for improvement, it also concluded that Erik was the best partner to help us drive up standards and outcomes.

This group of players and staff have shown they are capable of competing and winning at the top level; now we need to do it more consistently. With our strengthened football leadership team now in place, we look forward to working hand-in-hand with Erik to achieve our shared ambitions for this football club.”
