“Son of Chike” is a 12-track masterpiece featuring previously released singles like the chart-topping “Egwu” with the late Mohbad and “Man Not God.” Through this album, Chike pays tribute to his roots, reaffirms his identity as his father’s son, and explores themes of love while skillfully blending the iconic highlife sounds of his eastern Nigerian heritage.
Chike showcases his versatility by drawing from a diverse musical palette that enhances his signature silky RnB sound. The album opens with “Unto You,” a soulful track featuring rapper Ladipoe, who delivers a heartfelt declaration of unwavering love. “One Day” includes a powerful collaboration with street-pop giant Olamide and rising star Amaeya, creating an inspiring anthem of perseverance. Chike’s keen understanding of human emotions shines through in tracks like “Someone,” which delves into the pain of unrequited love, and “Balance Am,” which advocates for redemption and making amends.
Announcing the album earlier this month, Chike expressed his sentiments:
#SonOfChike is from me to you. I had a good time making it and an even better time knowing that I was making it for you. I believe art should be a collage of experiences and feelings. I tried to put my feelings together to make some sense of it, hoping you would feel something I had felt or experienced something I had experienced.
“Son of Chike” is a celebration of Chike’s journey, offering listeners a rich blend of emotions and a deep connection to his cultural roots.
