In a stunning display of talent, Arda Güler, Real Madrid’s sensational youngster, has broken Cristiano Ronaldo’s long-standing record at the UEFA Euros. Güler’s remarkable goal for Turkey in their opening fixture of the Euro 2024 tournament has etched his name in the history books.

The highly anticipated Group F match against Georgia saw Turkey secure their first-ever tournament-opening win at the finals under the guidance of Vincenzo Montella. The match took place in North Rhine-Westphalia and showcased Güler’s exceptional skills.

Turkey initially took the lead with a goal from Mert Müldür in the 25th minute. However, Georgia’s Georges Mikautadze quickly equalized seven minutes later, marking Georgia’s first goal in the European Championships. The score remained tied until Güler’s stunning strike from just outside the box in the 65th minute put Turkey back in front. Substitute Kerem Akturkoglu added a third goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time, securing a 3-1 victory for Turkey.

Güler’s goal, scored at 19 years and 114 days old, made him the youngest player to score in his first appearance at the UEFA Euros, breaking the previous record held by Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo had set the record at Euro 2004 when he scored at 19 years and 128 days old during his European Championship debut against Greece, despite Portugal’s 2-1 loss. Ronaldo’s record stood for 20 years, through four tournaments (Euros 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020), until Güler’s historic goal.

Arda Güler’s remarkable achievement has solidified his reputation as one of the players to watch in the coming year, justifying his move to Real Madrid. His performance at Euro 2024 has not only brought pride to Turkey but also highlighted the emergence of a new star in international football.
