Dylan Minnette, best known for his roles in “13 Reasons Why” and “Scream,” has opened up about his decision to step back from acting to focus on his music career. The 27-year-old actor, who found significant success with the Netflix series, shared his thoughts in a recent interview on The Zach Sang Show with his band, Wallows.

Minnette starred as Clay Jensen on “13 Reasons Why,” which premiered in 2017 and ran for four seasons, concluding in 2020. Reflecting on this period, Minnette admitted that while the series was incredibly popular and marked a peak in his acting career, it eventually began to feel like just another job. He said, “I was on 13 Reasons Why, and it was really popular and definitely reached a peak in what I’ve had in acting. But it also started to feel like a bit of a job.”
This realization led him to shift his focus to his band, Wallows. Minnette explained, “I feel like Wallows and music is this passion that we have always had as a group to really take all the way, and as far as we can. And I feel like I’m in a position now where I can just kind of do that for a while and get this the farthest it can be.”
Minnette’s passion for music has always been evident, and he felt it was the right time to dedicate himself fully to it. Alongside bandmates Braeden Lemasters and Cole Preston, Wallows has garnered a significant following and achieved considerable success.
Despite his focus on music, Minnette has not ruled out a return to acting. He expressed that he still feels a creative pull towards acting, saying, “I do feel like I have something to give, and that’s probably acting. I feel like I’m starting to feel inspiration for that again. At some point, when we’ve fulfilled our Wallows duties and we’re all ready to take a break as a band, that’s when I’ll have the perfect inspiration to do something.”
Minnette’s journey highlights the importance of following one’s passions and being open to change. His decision to step back from acting, despite the success he had achieved, underscores his dedication to his artistic pursuits and his desire to remain inspired in his work.
