Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury Rematch Set for December

The highly anticipated rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury is set for December 21. Usyk, the newly crowned undisputed heavyweight champion, beat Fury by split decision on May 18, becoming the first undisputed champion of the four-belt era. Originally, the rematch was planned for October, but Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s general entertainment authority, announced the new date.

“The world will watch another historical fight again,” Alalshikh posted on X. “Our commitment to boxing fans continues. We hope you enjoy it.”

Usyk, the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999, added Fury’s WBC belt to his WBA, WBO, and IBF collection during their fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The 37-year-old Ukrainian has won all 22 of his professional fights.

While Alalshikh did not specify a venue for the rematch, he mentioned it would take place “during Riyadh Season,” an entertainment festival held every winter since 2019, which has hosted numerous high-profile boxing events.

For 35-year-old Briton Fury, the rematch offers a chance for revenge after experiencing the first defeat of his 16-year professional career against Usyk. However, it is unlikely that all four belts will be on the line, as the IBF plans to strip Usyk for not facing its mandatory challenger next.
