Corey Harris joined his court hearing for driving with a suspended license via Zoom on May 15, and to everyone’s surprise, he was visibly driving a car.
Judge J. Cedric Simpson, visibly shocked, asked Corey if he was indeed operating a vehicle. Corey nonchalantly replied, “I’m pulling into my doctor’s office actually.” He repeated this several times, even as he parked the car.
The judge’s jaw dropped as Corey blatantly broke the law in front of the court. Judge Simpson then turned to Corey’s attorney and said, “So maybe I don’t understand something. This is a driving with a suspended license case. And he was just driving. And he didn’t have a license.” The attorney confirmed this was true.
Realizing his major mistake, Corey tried to defend himself, but his lawyer intervened. Judge Simpson, unimpressed, revoked Corey’s bail and ordered him to turn himself in to the Washington County Jail by 6 p.m. that evening.
