Yondo Sister is a renowned Congolese musician, born Denise Kusala Yondo in 1958 in Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of Congo. She is celebrated for her contributions to the Soukous genre of music and the Kwassa Kwassa dance, earning her the titles “the queen of soukous” and “the queen of rumba.” Yondo Sister’s musical journey began alongside her sister, Chantal Yondo, in Tabu Ley Rochereau’s band, L’afrisa International. Although she initially aimed to become a dancer, Rochereau’s influence pivoted her career towards music.
