In a shocking incident, 26-year-old Kenyan socialite Starlet Wahu was found brutally murdered in a Nairobi Airbnb. Wahu, the younger sister of the controversial preacher Victor Kanyari, was discovered dead in an apartment in South B, Nairobi County, on the morning of January 4, 2024.

According to police reports, Wahu had checked into the Papino Apartments the previous evening with a 34-year-old man named John Matara. Surveillance footage from the building captured the two entering an elevator and heading to their rented room on the fourth floor.
The socialite’s body was found in a pool of blood inside the apartment after the Airbnb’s owner, Florence Ngina, was alerted by a security guard that Matara had left the premises early on Thursday morning wearing blood-stained clothes. Upon entering the apartment with a spare key, Ngina discovered Wahu’s lifeless body in the living room and immediately reported the incident to the South B police station.
The crime scene suggested a violent struggle, with signs of disarray and chaos. Wahu had sustained stab wounds to her head and right thigh. Makadara police boss Judith Nyongesa stated that Wahu died due to excessive bleeding, with a cut to a vein connected to the heart.
At the scene, police found items including HIV testing kits, used condoms, bhang, a bottle of alcohol, and a blood-stained kitchen knife, believed to be the murder weapon. Wahu was laid to rest at her family home in Kamulu on January 6, following a post-mortem examination.
Police tracked down Matara to Mbagathi County Hospital, where he was receiving treatment for a stab wound. After being discharged, Matara was arrested and detained for questioning.
