Early Life and Background
Prince Indah, the third child in a family of five, was raised by his parents, Meshack Owino and Caroline Achieng’, in their residence at Huruma Flats in Nairobi, Kenya. His early years were marked by a desire to pursue education and a passion for music that would later define his career.
He commenced his primary education at Daima Primary School in Huruma and continued until he reached class 3 in 2003. Tragedy struck when his father passed away, leading to Prince Indah’s transfer to Oloma Murumba Primary School. It was at Oloma Murumba that he completed his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2008.
Prince Indah’s determination and hard work during his primary education were evident when he achieved an impressive score of 360 marks in his KCPE exams. In 2009, he enrolled in Missions Of Hope High School in Machakos County. However, his educational journey faced a significant setback in 2013 when his mother, the family’s breadwinner, passed away. This tragic event forced him to drop out of school while in Form 3.
Facing the harsh reality of life without parental support, Prince Indah turned to manual labor, including engaging in construction work (Mjengo activities) to sustain himself in the city.

Career and Achievements
Prince Indah’s deep love for music found expression in his frequent visits to nightclubs in the evenings after a day of work. These clubs often featured live Ohangla music, and Prince Indah would immerse himself in the performances. He closely observed the drummers and percussionists, and the exchange of drumsticks across the drums fascinated him.
He gradually developed a strong affinity for Ohangla music and admired artists like Emma Jalamo, who also happened to be his paternal uncle. Emma Jalamo’s captivating voice left a lasting impression on Prince Indah, inspiring him to pursue a career in music.
Prince Indah’s passion led him to the stage, where he would grab shakers and shake them or sit by the drum sets, demonstrating his enthusiasm for music. His dedication and active participation caught the attention of Ramogi Ohangla Rhumba (R.O.R), a renowned Ohangla band led by Emma Jalamo. Impressed by his cooperation and quick learning, the band offered Prince Indah a chance to join them.
At R.O.R, Prince Indah took on the role of a curtain raiser and backup singer to Emma Jalamo. He used this opportunity to study Emma Jalamo’s singing style meticulously, honing his own vocal skills to mimic Jalamo’s unique voice. His determination paid off, and he composed his own songs, which he later recorded.
In September 2014, Prince Indah released his debut album, comprising six tracks, with the hit single “Cinderella” featuring Adeka Engineer, “Nyakisumu pt1,” “Pokna,” “Uchumi,” and “Ken Soldier.”
Working closely with Emma Jalamo, Prince Indah saw him as a mentor and a king in the Ohangla music genre. In recognition of Emma Jalamo’s stature, Prince Indah adopted the stage name “Prince” as a tribute to his mentor, and combined it with his local name “Indah,” resulting in his full stage name, Prince Indah.
In October 2016, Prince Indah recorded his second album titled “Tenda Wema” and launched it on December 23 of the same year. This marked a significant milestone in his career, and he decided to establish his own band, Malaika Ohangla Rhumba Band (M.O.R), which currently boasts 20 members and two managers.
In June 2017, Prince Indah began recording his third album, releasing the controversial hit “Nyakisumu Part 2,” which catapulted him to fame. The album, titled “Weche Hera,” was scheduled for launch in November of the same year.
Prince Indah is dedicated to his music career and aspires to open a business and Malaika Music Academy in the future. He counts Emma Jalamo as his musical mentor, Osito Kale as his role model in Benga music, and John Okidi as his favorite gospel artist.
