AKA, whose real name was Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, was tragically shot and killed on February 10 outside a restaurant on Florida Road in Durban. The case has since garnered significant attention, both for the rapper’s popularity and the shocking nature of the crime.
Minister Cele disclosed crucial progress in the investigation, stating, “We have found the getaway car, the gun has been found. They have found two people who I know for sure are kept safe because they know very well what happened on the particular day, who have given information for the police to get the gun, for the police to get the car.”
He emphasized the importance of protecting these individuals, as they hold key information about the events leading to AKA’s death and the broader network involved in the murder. Cele’s remarks suggest a deeper, more complex plot behind the rapper’s assassination, involving people within his inner circle.
When questioned about the possible involvement of hired assassins, known locally as “inkabi,” Cele acknowledged, “Those people … some of them were hired. Some of those people were close associates.”
This update from the Police Minister adds a chilling layer to the tragedy, pointing to betrayal and conspiracy within AKA’s own circle. As the investigation continues, the music community and fans worldwide are left reeling from the revelation that those close to the rapper may have played a role in his untimely death.
