Hollywood actor Ryan O’Neal, renowned for his roles in ‘Peyton Place’ and ‘Love Story,’ passed away at the age of 82 on December 8. The news of his death was confirmed by his son, Patrick O’Neal, through a touching Instagram post.

Patrick wrote, “My dad passed away peacefully today, with his loving team by his side supporting him and loving him as he would us. My father Ryan O’Neal has always been my hero. I looked up to him and he was always bigger than life.” The cause of his death was not specified.

Ryan O’Neal’s rise to fame began with his portrayal of Rodney Harrington in the ABC soap opera ‘Peyton Place’ in 1964. He became a heartthrob after his performance in the 1970 box office success ‘Love Story,’ earning him an Oscar nomination.

In 1973, O’Neal starred in ‘Paper Moon,’ playing a con artist alongside his real-life daughter, Tatum O’Neal. Tatum won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film at the age of 10. O’Neal’s other significant works include ‘Barry Lyndon,’ ‘A Bridge Too Far,’ and ‘The Driver.’

Born to screenwriter Charles “Blackie” O’Neal and actress Patricia O’Callaghan, Ryan O’Neal was destined for the film industry. Before his acting career, he was a trained professional boxer, competing in two Golden Gloves championships in the mid-1950s. He transitioned from sports to acting, starting as a stuntman on the TV series ‘Tales of the Vikings.’

Ryan O’Neal’s legacy in film and television will be remembered for his dynamic roles and charismatic performances, marking the end of an era in Hollywood.
