Nicki Minaj Declines Kanye West's Request to Feature 'New Body' Verse on 'Vultures' Album

Rap superstar Nicki Minaj has recently declined Kanye West’s request to use her verse from their 2018 collaboration, “New Body,” on his latest album, “Vultures.” Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, reached out to Nicki via a text message, which he shared on X (formerly Twitter), seeking her approval to include the track in his new project.

However, Minaj was quick to address the request during an Instagram Live session. She explained her decision by highlighting the song’s age, saying, “Regarding Kanye, that train has left the station, okay? No disrespect in any way. I just put out a brand-new album. Why would I put out a song that’s been out for three years? Come on, guys.”

“Vultures,” which was scheduled for release today, is notably absent from streaming platforms. Minaj reflected on the missed opportunity, stating, “I missed it by a year, I guess. Had ‘New Body’ been out when he was not in his gospel era, then it would’ve seen the light of day. But, it didn’t, so it wasn’t meant to be. Everybody knows that’s the hit that got away… I think the ship has sailed for ‘New Body’… Everybody has come to love the original way they heard it.”

Back in October 2019, speaking to The Shade Room, Minaj revealed that she was asked to re-record her verse for “New Body” to fit into Kanye’s then-upcoming gospel album, “Jesus Is King.” She mentioned, “What’s funny is that I did a song with Kanye, that he now wants to transform into a gospel song. I done wrote three different verses chile, and I don’t know. We ain’t seeing eye to eye on it. I don’t know, but of course, I love and respect Kanye, and Kim, we’ll see what happens with that.”

In a February 2022 interview with Hot 106, Nicki further elaborated on the track’s status and her respect for Kanye’s spiritual journey, noting the public’s adoration for “New Body” as “the biggest hit record that never came out.”
