Kanye West Puts His $53M Malibu Mansion on the Market Following Unfinished ‘Bomb Shelter’ Remodel
Rap mogul Kanye West is set to sell his Malibu beachfront mansion for $53 million, a notable $4 million less than what he paid for it two years ago. The property, originally bought for $57 million, underwent an ambitious but ultimately halted remodel that sought to turn it into a bomb shelter.

The sale is being handled by Jason Oppenheim, co-founder of The Oppenheim Group and a well-known figure in the real estate industry. Oppenheim, 46, shared that the mansion’s price reflects the cost of new finishes and the extensive removal of the home’s interiors.
Designed by the esteemed Japanese architect Tadao Ando, the house is renowned for its minimalist design and extensive use of concrete. “It’s a unique home for a unique and discerning buyer,” Oppenheim said. The property, located on Malibu Road, is praised for being in one of the world’s most desirable areas.
The house, sprawling over 4,000 square feet with an additional 1,500 square feet of outdoor space, is constructed from 1,200 tons of concrete and 200 tons of steel, supported by 12 deep-driven pylons. Its design heavily utilizes natural light, creating a warm atmosphere that harmonizes with the surroundings.
West’s ambitious plans included removing all windows and electricity to create a ‘bomb shelter from the 1910s,’ as reported by TMZ. These drastic changes led to legal disputes with the project’s manager, Tony Saxon. Saxon, suing West for labor violations, alleged that West insisted on removing these essential features despite advice to the contrary.
Saxon’s lawyer, Neama Rahmani, commented on the sale, expressing hope that it marks a step towards resolving the ongoing legal issues and compensation for his client. “This house was ‘a Picasso on the water’ before Kanye ordered Tony to rip it apart. While we’re pleased Kanye may finally have the money to fulfill his obligations to Mr. Saxon, buyer beware,” Rahmani stated.
