The trial, which began earlier this month in Manhattan, reached its critical phase as both the defense and prosecution laid out their final arguments to the jury. Majors’ attorney, Priya Chaudhry, made a heartfelt plea for the jury to “end this nightmare” for her client, dismissing the accusations as implausible and questioning the credibility of Majors’ ex-girlfriend and accuser, Grace Jabbari.
Chaudhry specifically referenced the 911 call made by Majors on March 25, the date of the alleged assault, highlighting the fear and repercussions faced by a Black man in America in such situations. This statement particularly moved Majors and Good, leading to a poignant moment in the courtroom where the two embraced, visibly emotional.
Meagan Good, who has been a constant presence in the courtroom alongside Majors, was also seen wiping away tears during the proceedings.
Majors faces four misdemeanor counts stemming from the altercation with Jabbari in March, including assault with intent to cause physical injury and aggravated harassment. He has consistently denied these allegations, with his attorney arguing that Jabbari was the real aggressor.
The prosecution, led by Assistant District Attorney Kelli Galaway, argued that the case was about control and abuse, pointing to a pattern of disturbing behavior from Majors, including text messages and an audio recording. However, they faced challenges in directly linking Jabbari’s injuries to Majors. Notably, the driver who was present that night testified that Jabbari appeared to be the aggressor after discovering suggestive text messages on Majors’ phone.
In response, Galaway accused the driver of bias towards Majors, emphasizing that the case was not a personal vendetta against the actor but a matter of state prosecution.
