Edoardo Santini: From Italy's Most Handsome Man to Priesthood

Edoardo Santini, a 21-year-old Italian who was voted the most handsome man in Italy in 2019, has made a life-altering decision to leave his modeling career and aspirations of becoming an actor to pursue priesthood. Santini, who won the title at 17 in a pageant organized by fashion group ABE, announced his decision on social media on December 2.

Having dedicated years to studying drama and dance, Santini expressed a significant change of heart. In his social media announcement, he revealed his enrollment in a seminary near Florence and his commitment to his faith. He stated, “At 21 years of age I find myself on the path towards becoming a priest, God willing.”

Santini, from Castel Fiorentino, emphasized that while he is giving up his modeling, acting, and dance careers, he will continue to pursue his passions in a different way, dedicating them to God. He reflected on the life-changing decisions made by his parents at the same age and drew parallels to his own life journey.

He recounted his experience living with two priests, calling it the “best experience of my life,” and shared his decision to join the preparatory course for seminary life. Santini is now studying theology and serving two parishes in the Florentine diocese.

Despite facing backlash and criticism, even from some family members, Santini remains steadfast in his choice. He acknowledges the support he has received from both believers and non-believers and remains determined to follow his new path. He concludes, “I am Edoardo, I am 21 years old and I am happy,” embracing his decision with confidence and joy.

On Instagram, Santini shared a clip of himself praying in a church and updated his profile bio to “I’m a Christian, priest wannabe,” signaling his commitment to his new life direction.
