Tina Knowles Reveals Beyoncé's 'Mean' Streak During Tours

Beyoncé’s pursuit of perfection is well-known, and according to her mother, Tina Knowles, this can sometimes lead to a ‘mean’ streak, especially during the stress of live performances. In a candid interview with Sheri, Ms. Knowles opened up about her daughter’s demanding nature backstage.

Though the Renaissance tour is now a wrap, Tina recalled the intense atmosphere during quick changes and the rush between sets. “Girl, you get really mean back there,” Tina laughingly told Beyoncé recently. Despite the stern demeanor, Beyoncé is aware of her tough moments, often breaking down to apologize for the harsh words thrown in the heat of the moment.

“Sometimes she’ll be crying, and I was like, ‘She crying because she knows she just said some crazy stuff to us,'” Tina shared, understanding the immense pressure her daughter faces to deliver flawless performances.

Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour, which spanned from May 10, 2023, to October 1, has not only been a roaring success but has also etched its mark in history as the highest-grossing tour by a black artist, boasting the two highest monthly tour grosses ever.

For fans and the crew alike, it seems Beyoncé’s demanding nature is just a small price to pay for the unmatched spectacle she brings to the stage.
