Rapper A$AP Rocky, legally known as Rakim Mayers, is set to go to trial after being accused of shooting his former friend, Terell “A$AP Relli” Ephron. This development follows a judge’s ruling on Monday, finding sufficient evidence to proceed with two charges of assault with a firearm.

The incident, which occurred on November 6, 2021, in Hollywood, has attracted significant attention, especially with Rocky being the partner of pop icon Rihanna and the father of her two children. According to the prosecution, evidence includes a video indicating a gun and a photo showing Relli’s injured knuckles, purportedly from the gunshot.
During the preliminary hearing, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge M.L. Villar stated that the law requires only minimal evidence for the charges to stand, a threshold that has evidently been met in this case. Ephron testified that the first bullet grazed the knuckles on his left hand, and he sought medical treatment in New York following the incident.
Rocky’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, who is also known for representing former President Donald Trump in several high-profile cases, expressed confidence in his client’s vindication. Despite acknowledging the low standard for probable cause at this stage, Tacopina anticipates a different outcome at trial, challenging the credibility of Relli’s accusations.
Relli’s testimony detailed a heated exchange leading up to the alleged shooting, painting a picture of a tense confrontation that escalated quickly. He claimed that Rocky threatened him and then fired multiple shots, one of which grazed his hand.
The case has seen Rocky arrested in April 2022 and a subsequent search of his and Rihanna’s home in Los Angeles, with the rapper posting a $550,000 bond to secure his release.
Despite the gravity of the charges, Tacopina mentioned that Rocky intends to protect his family from the ordeal, indicating that Rihanna is unlikely to attend the trial sessions.
As the case proceeds, A$AP Rocky faces serious legal challenges, with both criminal charges and a separate lawsuit for defamation, assault, battery, and emotional distress filed by Relli. The upcoming trial is set to be a high-profile event, drawing attention to the complexities and dynamics of celebrity legal battles.
