Apple Verifies iPhone 15 Overheating Issue Attributed to Bug and Certain Apps
Apple is actively working on a software solution in response to reports of overheating issues with some of its newly released iPhone 15 models. According to the company’s statement to CNN, these overheating concerns are not associated with safety risks and will not adversely affect the long-term performance of the affected iPhone models. Apple has also highlighted that iPhones are equipped with built-in safeguards to regulate component temperatures if they exceed acceptable levels.

Apple acknowledged that several factors are contributing to the elevated temperature levels experienced by some users of their next-generation lineup, a matter that garnered attention after the latest iPhone models became available on September 22.
In their statement to CNN, Apple mentioned, “We have identified a few conditions which can cause iPhone to run warmer than expected.” Additionally, Apple disclosed the discovery of a bug in iOS 17 affecting certain users and announced plans to release a software update to rectify this issue. However, the company did not provide a specific timeline for when the fix would be accessible.
Furthermore, Apple explained that iPhones may exhibit increased warmth during the initial days after setup or device restoration due to heightened background activity. Apple’s support page further advises users that temperature elevation during tasks like device restoration from backups, use of graphics-intensive apps, high-quality video streaming, and wireless charging is normal. The company assures users that their device will return to its regular temperature once the process is complete or the activity is finished, provided there are no temperature warnings displayed.
This development coincides with strong demand for the iPhone 15, as analysts from firms such as Wedbush Securities reported pre-order figures exceeding initial expectations, particularly for the premium iPhone 15 Pro models, including the Pro Max. Delivery and shipment timelines for various Pro models have been extended to late October through mid-November.
Apple’s release of the new iPhones follows a report in August where the company revealed a third consecutive quarterly decline in sales. iPhone revenue for the third quarter was approximately $39.7 billion, reflecting a roughly 2% year-over-year decrease as users extended the duration between device upgrades.
Nevertheless, Wedbush estimates suggest that roughly 250 million iPhones have not been upgraded in over four years. Improved processor capabilities, enhanced camera systems, and advancements in the charging infrastructure, coupled with attractive discounts from mobile carriers, may be compelling reasons for users to finally consider upgrading this year.
The iPhone 15 Pro starts at $1,099, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max is priced starting at $1,199. Apple’s entry-level options, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, are available at prices of $799 and $899, respectively.
