Career
In 2005, Chris Cerulli founded the band Motionless in White, and they embarked on their journey by performing at various nightclubs. It was during one of these nightclub performances that they caught the attention of talent agent and producer Zach Neil. Impressed by their talent, Neil wasted no time and promptly signed them to his record label, Masquerade Recordings.
Their journey took flight in 2007 when the band released their first EP titled “The Whorror.” This marked the beginning of their musical career. Three years later, in 2010, they released their debut studio album titled “Creatures,” which achieved significant success, reaching number six on the Billboard Heatseeker Music Chart. The album’s first single, ‘Abigail,’ also garnered widespread acclaim.
Over the years, Motionless in White continued to make their mark in the music industry with the release of several more albums:
- “Infamous” (2012)
- “Reincarnate” (2014)
- “Graveyard Shift” (2017)
- “Disguise” (2019)
Their most recent album, “Scoring the End of the World,” was released in 2022, showcasing their ongoing dedication to their musical journey.
Family
Indeed, the musician has two younger siblings: a brother and a sister. His father’s name is Jerry Cerulli. Interestingly, his brother is also involved in the family’s workshop business, working alongside Jerry.
However, the musician has chosen to keep his mother’s name private. During his formative years, Chris endured the distressing experience of witnessing frequent conflicts between his parents, which brought significant emotional pain to him and his siblings. Ultimately, the turmoil in their household led to his parents’ divorce.
In response to the turmoil in his life, he turned to songwriting as a means of coping with his emotions. His early exposure to guitar lessons, taught by his grandfather when he was just eight years old, played a pivotal role in helping him navigate the challenges of his tumultuous childhood.
Mental Health Struggle
Cerulli has grappled with mental health challenges on multiple occasions throughout his life. Prior to the release of MIW’s fifth album, “Disguise,” in 2019, the lead singer struggled with his mental health and personal identity for over a year. Typically reserved about his personal emotions in public, he turned to songwriting as a means of conveying his innermost feelings. The track “Disguise” is one poignant example where he poured his emotions into his lyrics.
During an interview with Kerrang magazine in May 2019, he explained, “I use lyrics as a way to express those things that I don’t share publicly, and the song is about how I feel like I’m constantly having to put on this mask, put on this disguise when I show myself. I don’t feel like it’s accepted to talk about the things I want to talk about emotionally or mentally to a certain degree, and that’s been a struggle for me, and what I’ve been dealing with.” Cerulli went on to express how he felt as if he were losing his true self, overwhelmed by the pressure to conform to an alternate persona.
In response to his deteriorating mental health, Cerulli sought help, prompted by the advice of friends. He shifted his perspective on therapy, acknowledging its benefits and encouraging others to seek support for their emotional well-being. However, in 2020, his mental health declined once again, prompting him to openly discuss his struggles on social media and highlight the importance of destigmatizing mental health issues. Despite the progress made through therapy, he emphasized that it cannot replace the fulfillment derived from pursuing one’s passion and addressing irrevocable regrets. He urged individuals to overcome societal expectations, embrace vulnerability, and prioritize genuine connections over fame and material success.
Family
The lead vocalist of MIW remains unattached romantically and is currently single. He has not entered into marriage. Previously, between 2013 and 2018, he was in a substantial, long-term relationship with Gaiapatra, a model and photographer. Additionally, he had a relationship with a woman named Callie at some point in his dating history.
