Born to actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan and actress Sarika Thakur, as a child artist, she sang in films and did a guest role in her father’s directorial Hey Ram (2000) before making her acting debut with Hindi film Luck (2009), for which she received Stardust Award for Superstar of Tomorrow โ Female nomination. She made her Telugu debut with Anaganaga O Dheerudu and Tamil debut with 7aum Arivu both (2011), for both these films she won Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut โ South.
Haasan went onto established herself in South Indian cinema with successful Telugu films Gabbar Singh (2012), Balupu (2013), Yevadu, Race Gurram both (2014), Srimanthudu (2015), Premam (2016), and Krack (2021). She received SIIMA Award for Best Actress โ Telugu for Gabbar Singh, Race Gurram, and Srimanthudu. She also won Filmfare Award for Best Actress โ Telugu for Race Gurram.

Early life and family
Shruti Haasan was born into a Tamil family on January 28, 1986, in Madras (now Chennai), to the renowned Indian actor’s Kamal Haasan and Sarika Thakur. Her father is a Tamilian Brahmin Iyengar, while her mother’s father was Maharashtrian and her mother’s mother was Rajput. Haasan’s parents tied the knot when she was one year old, but they got divorced in 2004. She has a younger sister named Akshara Haasan, who is also an actress. Additionally, her uncle, Charuhasan, is a well-known actor and lawyer, and her cousins include actresses Suhasini Maniratnam and Anu Hasan.
Haasan completed her schooling at Lady Andal School in Chennai and later moved to Mumbai to pursue a degree in psychology at St. Andrew’s College. However, her interest in cinema and music took over, and she decided to focus on those fields instead. She went on to further her education in music at the Musicians Institute in California, USA, before returning to Chennai.
Education
After finishing her primary education at Abacus Montessori School in Chennai, Shruti Haasan pursued her higher education at St. Andrew’s College in Mumbai. However, her passion for music led her to the United States, where she attended the Musicians Institute in California to hone her skills.
Career
At the age of six, Shruti Haasan sang her first song “Potri Paadadi Ponne” for her father’s film Thevar Magan (1992). Her official singing debut came in the film Chachi 420, and she also sang the theme song “Rama Rama” for Hey Ram (2000). She has not only showcased her singing talent but has also written lyrics for the film Hisss (2010).
Haasan’s acting career began as a child artist in the bilingual Hindi and Tamil film Hey Ram (2000). She started her modelling career by gracing the cover pages of popular magazines like Frappe! and Verve. She has acted in several films, including Ramaiya Vastavaiya, Gabbar is Back, and Welcome 2.
Currently, Shruti Haasan is gearing up for her upcoming projects. She will be seen in the action thriller Salaar alongside Prabhas, and she is also a part of Vijay Sethupathi’s Laabam.
