Abhay Chautala, the leader of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), emerged victorious in the Ellenabad bypoll in Haryana with a lead of 6,708 votes. After 16 rounds of vote counting, Chautala secured 65,897 votes, while Gobind Kanda from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received 59,189 votes, and Pawan Beniwal from the Indian National Congress received 20,857 votes.

Chautala attributed his win to the “farmers and people of Ellenabad” and criticized the BJP-JJP alliance for engaging in horse-trading and colluding with the Congress. He claimed that his margin of victory would have been much larger, at least over 20,000 votes, had these actions not taken place.
This election was of great importance to Chautala as his party had only won one seat, Ellenabad, in the last Vidhan Sabha election. It was also a crucial election for the BJP-JJP alliance, which has been facing opposition from the farmer community over recent legislation.
