Early Life
Born on January 22, 1986, in Mexia, Texas, Daniel Wayne Smith was the son of Billy Wayne Smith and Vickie Lynn Hogan, who later became known as Anna Nicole Smith. When his parents separated in 1987, Daniel was primarily raised by his mother and maternal grandmother, Virgie Arthur, in Texas until he turned six. He later attended North Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, where he was known as a straight-A student.
Daniel’s life took a unique turn when his mother met oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II at a strip club, and the two married in 1994, making Daniel the stepson of Marshall. At age 16, Daniel appeared on his mother’s reality TV show, “The Anna Nicole Show,” which aired on E! Entertainment Television from 2002 to 2004. However, in one episode of the show’s second season, he expressed his desire to no longer participate.
Aside from his appearances on his mother’s show, Daniel had small roles in two of her films, “Skyscraper” and “To the Limit.” He was also featured with his mother on an episode of “E! True Hollywood Story.” In the summer of 2006, he was attending classes at Los Angeles Valley College. Despite his brief public appearances, Daniel remains remembered by his family and friends as a bright and promising young man.
Television & Film Appearances
At the age of 16, he made his debut on his mother’s TV series, ‘The Anna Nicole Show.’ Although he was prominently featured in the opening credits, his actual on-screen appearances were limited. During the show’s second season, Daniel expressed his desire to no longer participate.
He later appeared alongside his mother in an episode of the popular American documentary series, ‘E True Hollywood Story.’ The show, which focuses on celebrities and public figures, aired on the ‘E Entertainment Network.’
In 1995, he played a minor role in the action thriller film, ‘To the Limit,’ which was directed by Raymond Martino and starred his mother, as well as Joey Travolta and Michael Nouri. The following year, he once again appeared in a minor role in the direct-to-video film, ‘Skyscraper,’ which was also directed by Raymond Martino and starred his mother in the lead role. Despite his small parts in these films, his acting abilities received recognition from many.
Death
On September 10, 2006, while visiting his mother at the maternity ward in Doctors Hospital in Nassau, Bahamas, Smith passed away. His half-sister Dannielynn Birkhead had been born just three days earlier. American forensic pathologist, Cyril Wecht, concluded that Smith’s death was caused by accidental overdose of methadone and antidepressants. Larry Birkhead, who testified during an inquest, claimed that Smith had stolen his mother’s methadone, used drugs together with her, and had lost approximately twenty pounds before his demise, according to security personnel at the house.
Funeral
During Daniel’s funeral, one of Anna Nicole’s attorneys, Howard K. Stern, revealed that she attempted to climb inside the coffin when it was opened. Reports also suggested that Anna Nicole saw herself as both mother and father to Daniel.
On October 7, a separate memorial service was held for Daniel at the First Baptist Church of Mexia, attended by his father Billy Smith and grandmother, among others. On October 19, 2006, Daniel was buried at New Providence, Bahamas. Anna Nicole and Daniel are now buried side by side at Lake View Memorial Gardens & Mausoleums.
Net Worth
The exact information regarding Daniel Wayne Smith’s net worth remains undisclosed. Unfortunately, he passed away at the young age of 20 due to an overdose of prescription drugs that belonged to his mother. Although he made periodic appearances on his mother’s show, ‘The Anna Nicole Show,’ which aired on the E! Network channel, and also appeared alongside her on ‘E! True Hollywood Story,’ his salary and income details are not publicly available.
However, it is known that he was the sole beneficiary of his mother’s estate, as stated in her will that was released on February 16, 2007. According to the will, all of her property was to be distributed to a trust under Daniel’s name.
