THE PREDICTION
Australia will be banking on the return of left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc helping to spark a revival in the fortunes, as they currently trail India 2-0 in this four-Test series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, whilst Starc is back, fellow fast bowler Pat Cummins will not be involved in this third Test, the Australian skipper having flown home to be with his mother, who is seriously ill.
Steve Smith will captain the side in Cummins’ absence, but Australia desperately needs him among others to contribute heavily with the bat. The difference between the two nations so far has been the batting, with India being able to handle to spinning conditions better than Australia. Whilst the tourists are capable of taking 20 wickets, their batters simply haven’t done enough to force any positive results for themselves.
It would be no surprise if this third Test went the same way as the previous two. India have not been at their all-round best with their top order batting struggling in the second Test, but the depth within their line-up has been crucial and led to vital lower order runs, which may serve them very well again here at Indore. With their spin-bowling attack ruthless and well backed up by the quicker bowlers, back India to secure an insurmountable 3-0 series lead.
