He is the nephew of director Francis Ford Coppola, and he changed his last name to Cage to avoid any confusion with his uncle. He began his acting career in the early 1980s and quickly gained fame for his roles in films such as “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” (1982), “Valley Girl” (1983), “Racing with the Moon” (1984), and “Birdy” (1984)

His second wife was Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis Presley whom he was married to from 2002 to 2004. His third wife was Alice Kim whom he was married to from 2004 to 2016. Cage has one son from his third marriage, Kal-El Coppola Cage.
