Rebuilding their reputation after some disappointing Premier League seasons in the past few years, Arsenal is looking like genuine title contenders in 2022/23. Despite plenty of promising signs last season, silverware remained elusive for the Gunners, with their last trophy coming back in 2019/20 in the form of the FA Cup.

This story has also become apparent in the Premier League, with the London giants slowly slipping away from their once-regular position of title contention in the last decade.
The Sporting News takes a look at the last time Arsenal won the Premier League title, alongside documenting how they have fared in every English top-flight season since their last triumph.
When did Arsenal last win the Premier League?
Arsenal last won the Premier League title in 2003/04, gaining 90 points over the course of 38 games without losing a single match.
Of course, this is regarded by many as arguably the best achievement in English football in its entire history, due to the notoriously difficult nature of getting consistent results in the Premier League.
In 2003/04, the Gunners recorded important victories in many tight encounters, including a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield, as well as a double over London rivals Chelsea, who were their nearest title competitors by the same score.
Most famously, they were embroiled in one of the most iconic matches in Premier League history in a 0-0 draw away to Manchester United in September 2003. Labeled as the ‘Battle of Old Trafford’, both Manchester United and Arsenal were involved in an extremely bad-tempered affair with multiple instances of fracas throughout.

Four yellow cards were shown to each team throughout, including two for Gunners captain Patrick Vieira leading to his dismissal with 13 minutes to go in the match.
Despite being down to 10 men for the remainder of the clash and Ruud Van Nistelrooy missing a last-minute penalty for the hosts which prompted Martin Keown to celebrate wildly in front of the Dutchman, Wenger’s side clung on for a 0-0 draw before a melee at full-time ensued.
Six Arsenal players and two Manchester United men were charged with ”improper conduct’ by the FA in the aftermath of the game. This result was seen as symbolic of United’s dominance starting to falter, whilst providing the fuel for Arsenal to go unbeaten whereas the Red Devils could only muster a third-place finish.
Wenger’s men never looked back. As they say, the rest is history.
What has Arsenal’s record been since their last Premier League title?
Despite consistently finishing in the top four and securing UEFA Champions League from the following 2004/05 campaign until 2015/16, there hasn’t been a sustained title challenge from the Gunners on anywhere near enough of a consistent basis.
The 2022/23 season is shaping up differently though with Arsenal top of the table going into the World Cup break and five points clear of next best Manchester City.
