That’s why she didn’t hesitate when she was asked to do a new campaign for PETA, in which she had to go out covered with only one skin: hers. Yes, Alicia got completely nakedโฆ well, she wore faux fur boots, but all to promote more sustainable and vegan versions of this material.
She’d rather be naked than cover herself with animal fur
“If I have to get naked to make you care about animals, that’s what I intend to do,” the 46-year-old “Clueless” star said in a campaign video.
“I never, ever, get naked on TV, on film, anything, ever, no, but I’ve done it for PETA because that’s how much I care,” the “Kind Mama” author explained.
“I’d rather go naked than wear animals. There’s this idea that leather is somehow better for the Earth, but they don’t realize that the number of resources – water, food, oil for transportation – the amount of energy it takes to make leather is extraordinary. It’s not sustainable. The Earth can’t take it,” she said.
He wants people to adopt vegan versions of leather
In the campaign photo shoot and short video, Alicia posed with a cactus to encourage people to buy different types of vegan leather.
“DON’T BE A PRICK,” PETA’s photo proclaims. “Dress vegan. Buy cactus, mushroom, or apple leather instead!”.
In fact, this isn’t the first time Silverstone has stripped down for some cause she supports. Three years ago she also did it for PETA, to encourage people to ditch wool, with a spectacular ad in Times Square.
Silverstone has been a vegan since 1999, when she was 21, and has continued to extol the meatless lifestyle. Other celebrities who have shown their skin for PETA include Bethenny Frankel, Pamela Anderson, Joanna Krupa, Pink and Khloรฉ Kardashian, among others.
