The game was clouded by the decision of the team’s head coach Rigobert Song to leave out his first-team goalkeeper, Andre Onana from the team because of disciplinary issues.
However, Aboubakar was introduced into the game by Song after the West Africans went 3-1 down against Serbia on Monday, November 28th, 2022. The introduction of the striker was effective as he became the first substitute to both scores and assist in a single World Cup game for an African nation.
