African Countries in FIFA World Cup 2022
North African countries Morocco and Tunisia qualified for their second successive World Cups.
They both received tough groups, with Morocco facing Belgium and 2018 runners-up Croatia, whilst Tunisia will have to compete with champions France and Euro 2020 semifinalists Denmark.

Senegal also qualified for the second time in a row and will feel bullish about their chances of qualifying for the knockout rounds with a group of Qatar, Netherlands, and Ecuador. They will be without star man Sadio Mane though, who was withdrawn from the squad due to injury.
Two countries making their return after missing the 2018 tournament are Ghana and Cameroon. The countries have both achieved great things in past editions of the tournament and will be hoping to recreate those fairytale runs again in Qatar.
Ghana is in a difficult group with Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea, whilst Cameroon will fancy their chances of competing for the second spot in Group G, which contains the likes of Brazil, Switzerland, and Serbia.
How the African teams qualified to World Cup 2022
The African qualifiers feature the first round for smaller nations, where the winners progress to a group stage. At the end of the group stage, the winners of each group are drawn against another country in a two-legged tie to decide who goes to the World Cup.
Morocco won their tie comfortably, defeating DR Congo 5-2 on aggregate, whilst Tunisia’s 1-0 win in the first leg was enough to help them see off Mali.

The other three teams had to fight off fellow continental heavyweights in sometimes dramatic circumstances. Ghana saw off Nigeria by a single goal, whilst Senegal and Egypt’s tie went to penalties, where Mane scored the winning penalty to secure qualification.
The most drama was experienced in Algeria, where the home side thought they secured qualification with a goal in the 118th minute before Karl Toko-Ekambi scored in the fourth minute of added-time to send the Indomitable Lions through at the expense of the likes of Riyad Mahrez.
