The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga has insisted he is not a coward for skipping the 2022 presidential debate which happened last night.

Speaking in Meru, yesterday after meeting the Njuri Ncheke at the Nchiru shrine, Raila maintained that the only place he can meet his opponent Deputy President William Ruto is on the ballot.

“Our opponents have been taunting us that we are cowards and are not ready for an election. But I cannot debate him. When the government is fighting corruption, he has been saying it is weaponizing the war on graft,” he said.

During the session at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, the front-runner in the presidential race claimed that the insecurity and killings in Kerio Valley are the government’s way of punishing him. Ruto added that apart from the withdrawal of KPR, the contentious Error and Kimwarer dams were done to undermine him.

“The withdrawal of Kenya Police Reservists was meant to punish me. How else would you explain the withdrawal of all those security personnel,” he said.

At the ATPU headquarters, security officers manning the premises insisted the trio was not at their offices with a source within the government hinting at plans to deport the foreigners.

“It is not a must that they are interrogated at ATPU headquarters. It is not unusual that they are grilled elsewhere,” a police source said.

He said he arrived at the debate venue, but the feedback he received concerning the letters he had written was not convincing.

“As Roots Party, we refused to take part in the debate due to the discrimination. We wrote them letters asking them why the four of us couldn’t take part in the debate so that Kenyans can gauge us before making choices.”

Wajackoyah later gave out his campaign itinerary, with the climax being in the coming weekend in Mombasa county.
