Top 10 richest Musicians in Africa 2021 - Forbes List

Forbes Africa has released its list of richest African musicians. The list is based on various factors that include among others, endorsement value, popularity, show rates, sales, awards, and YouTube views.

If you are a Nigerian citizen, you will be glad to know that most of the top richest musicians in Nigeria are also on this list.

1: Youssou N’dour – Usd 150 Milion (Senegal)

Senegalese singer, songwriter, composer, occasional actor, businessman, and politician, Youssou N’Dour.

In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine described him as, “perhaps the most famous singer alive” in Senegal and much of Africa.

From April 2012 to September 2013, he was Senegal’s Minister of Tourism.

2: Akon – Usd 80 Milion (Senegal)

Senegalese-American singer, rapper, songwriter, record producer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and actor from New Jersey, Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam, also known mononymously as Akon.

He rose to prominence in 2004 following the release of “Locked Up” (featuring Styles P), the first single from his debut album Trouble (2004), followed by the second single “Lonely”

3: Black Cofee – USD 62 Milion (South Africa)

South African DJ, record producer, singer and songwriter, Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, better known by his stage name Black Coffee.

Maphumulo became prominent after participating in the 2004 Red Bull Music Academy that was held in Cape Town.

In September 2015, he won the “Breakthrough DJ of the Year” award at the DJ Awards in Ibiza.

4: Don Jazy – Usd 34 Milion (Nigeria)

Nigerian record producer, audio engineer, record executive, singer, songwriter, entrepreneur and philanthropist, Michael Collins Ajereh, known professionally as Don Jazzy.

Don Jazzy is the founder and the CEO of Mavin Records. Don Jazzy was co-owner of the defunct Mo’ Hits Records record label with Dbanj.


5: Davido – Usd 26 Milion (Nigeria)

Nigerian-American singer, songwriter, and record producer, David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

Davido is one of the most influential artists in Africa.

Davido rose to fame after releasing “Dami Duro”, the second single from his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo.

6: Wizikid – Usd 21 Milion (Nigeria)

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known professionally as Wizkid, Wizzy or Starboy.

One of Africa’s biggest artists, Wizkid is the most decorated Nigerian artist ever, and one of the most revolutionary Afro-pop artists of the modern era.

He began recording music at the age of 11 and managed to release a collaborative album with the Glorious Five, a group he and a couple of his church friends formed.

Wizkid signed a record deal with Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E) in 2009.

7: Rude Boy – Usd 16.5 Milion (Nigeria)

Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer. He rose to fame in the 2000s as a member of the P-Square duo with his identical twin brother Peter Okoye.

After the disbandment of P-Square in 2017, both band members sought separate musical careers.

Rudeboy released his debut solo tracks titled ‘Fire Fire’ and ‘Nkenji Keke’ in 2017.

His song “Reason With Me” generated the highest views on Youtube in Africa in 2019. He is the founder of Fire Department Inc, a record label he established in 2019.

8: Mr. P Usd 15.5 Milion (Nigeria)

Nigerian singer-songwriter, dancer, record producer and Multi-instrumentalist, Peter Okoye also known as Mr. P.

He released his album ”The Prodigal” on April 1, 2021, Featuring Simi, Teni, Singah, Tamar Braxton, DJ Switch, Ovikelz, Wande Coal.

9: 2face – Usd15.2 Milion (Nigeria)

Nigerian singer, musician, songwriter, record producer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, humanitarian, and activist, Innocent Ujah Idibia, known by his stage name 2Baba.

He is one of the most decorated and successful Afro pop artists in Africa. 2Baba is the first winner of MTV Europe, Best African Act Award in 2015.

In 2019, 2Baba, in collaboration with other artists like Cohbams and Timi Dakolo to release a song for the creation of awareness of the Rights of children.


10: D Banj – Usd 12 Milion (Nigeria)

Nigerian musician, singer, songwriter, rapper, entrepreneur and television personality, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo better known by his stage name Dbanj.

D Banj has won several music awards, including the awards for Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2007.

Artist of the Year at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2009, Best International Act: Africa at the 2011 BET Awards, and Best-selling African Artist at the 2014 World Music Awards, Evolution award at the 2015 MTV Africa Music awards.
