In a statement, Lythgoe expressed his regret but emphasized his voluntary decision to step down. He stated, “I have informed the producers of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ of my decision to step back from participating in this year’s series. I did so with a heavy heart but entirely voluntarily because this great program has always been about dance and dancers, and that’s where its focus needs to remain. In the meantime, I am dedicating myself to clearing my name and restoring my reputation.”
Abdul’s lawsuit alleges that Lythgoe sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions, both during her time as a judge on “American Idol” and while working on ‘SYTYCD.’ The allegations include claims of Lythgoe attempting to kiss Abdul and forcibly touching her in inappropriate ways.
Lythgoe has categorically denied these allegations, describing them as “false and deeply offensive.” His decision to leave “So You Think You Can Dance” seems to be a move to focus on addressing these serious accusations and maintaining the integrity of the show.
