In a shocking incident at the Clark County District Court in Las Vegas, Judge Mary Kay Holthus was attacked by a felon during a court sentencing on Wednesday, January 3.

The convict, 30-year-old Deobra Redden, suddenly assaulted Judge Holthus while receiving his sentence for felony battery. Despite his attorney’s request for probation, the judge decided against it. Following her comment that Redden needed to “get a taste of something else,” he leaped over the bench and violently brought her to the ground.
The courtroom erupted into chaos as multiple people, including the bailiff, intervened to restrain Redden. During the altercation, some individuals even landed punches on Redden before the situation was brought under control.
Sources from 8 News Now reported that Judge Holthus sustained a head injury but was fortunately alright after the harrowing experience.
Redden, no stranger to legal troubles, had multiple prior encounters with the law, including previous appearances before Judge Holthus. He served a year in prison for a separate domestic battery charge and was arraigned before Judge Holthus for destruction of property charges. In November, Redden pled guilty to threatening to harm a man in April and causing substantial bodily harm. He missed a court appearance in December, leading Holthus to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.
This incident has raised significant concerns about courtroom safety and the unpredictable nature of legal proceedings.
