Naira Marley has responded to the ongoing police investigation into the tragic death of his former signee, Mohbad, with a statement posted on his Instagram account. The Nigerian music artist expressed his innocence and willingness to cooperate with law enforcement authorities in uncovering the truth surrounding Mohbad’s passing.

Mohbad, also known as Ilerioluwa Aloba, sadly passed away at the age of 27 in Lagos State two weeks ago, with his burial held on September 13, 2023. In light of his untimely demise, the Lagos State Police Command initiated an investigation, including the exhumation of his remains for an autopsy.
In his statement, Naira Marley vehemently denied any responsibility for Mohbad’s death, either directly or indirectly. He acknowledged that conflicts among associates can arise in the music industry, as in any other field, but emphasized his innocence. He extended his condolences to the deceased and shared the emotional impact of the situation on him.
Naira Marley explained that his silence regarding the matter was to avoid interference with ongoing official investigations. He disclosed that he had been out of the country since August 31, 2023, but was in the process of returning to Nigeria to cooperate with the authorities and provide his perspective on the events. He expressed his full commitment to assisting the police, underscoring that he had no reason to evade their inquiries since he was not connected to Mohbad’s death.
The statement further reassured that the truth surrounding Mohbad’s demise would ultimately be revealed. Naira Marley referenced previous instances in the music industry where artists faced false accusations but emerged stronger, affirming his innocence and determination to clear his name.
Regarding Mohbad’s departure from Marlian Music in September 2022, Naira Marley clarified that the record label had accepted his decision and did not hinder his career or releases. Mohbad continued working with oneRPM, and legal measures were taken to address any concerns stemming from their previous collaboration.
