Tanzania Issues Ultimatum on 3D Plate Numbers

In a recent move to enforce road safety and compliance with vehicle registration standards, the Tanzanian government has set a 14-day deadline for the removal of all 3D plate numbers from vehicles. The directive, announced by Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Jumanne Sagini, targets not only private vehicles but also government ones adorned with these unauthorized and non-standard plate numbers.

The crackdown on 3D plate numbers includes any vehicle bearing black plates, chassis numbers, decorative lights, or stickers that deviate from the standard requirements. The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) mandates that vehicle registration numbers be clearly legible from a distance of at least 100 meters, a criterion that 3D numbers fail to meet due to their design and placement.

This enforcement action underscores the government’s commitment to road safety and the importance of adhering to vehicle registration standards. Vehicle owners and drivers are urged to comply with the removal order to avoid penalties and ensure their vehicles are correctly registered and easily identifiable on the road.
